It is a casting coup of sorts for Major Ravi. The Big B of Bollywood Amitabh Bachan has agreed to do a film with Mohanlal in Malayalam which will be directed by Major Ravi.
The film will be based on the hijacking of Indian Airlines flight IC-814 in 1999 which was on its way from Kathmandu to New Delhi. The passengers on the plane had to spend nearly on the tarmac of the Khandahar airport in Afghanistan.
Major Ravi, a former NSG commando said: “I read the script to Mr. Bachan in the presence of Mohanlal, and he readily agreed to do the film. The shoot of this film will start sometime in June after we procure the necessary security clearances.” The director is also trying to rope in Resul Pookutty to design sound work.
Sources close to Amitabh said that he has agreed to play a cameo and will appear in the role of the father of one of the passengers in the hijacked plane towards the climax of the film. Ravi had earlier directed films like Keerthichakara, Kuruskshetra, Mission 90 Days, and has tentatively titled his new film as Khandahar.
Khandahar is likely to be produced by Mohanlal’s right hand man Antony Perumbavoor under his Aashirwad Cinemas banner. Meanwhile Ravi is also trying to rope in young action heroes from Tamil and Hindi to make the project viable with Hindi and Tamil dubbed versions.
