Producers associations of Mollywood are planning to produce six low budget movies with prominent directors, each at around 1.5 crores for the years 2009-10. The movies are planned as an answer to ever increasing budget of Malayalam films, mostly featuring superstars which also fail to become box office earners.
Announcing the details of the projects, G Sureshkumar, the office bearer of producer forums informed that depending solely on superstar films doesn’t yield benefits in the newer circumstances, as even their films couldn’t make profits. Only four out of the 54 films which came up in the year 2008 ended up as profit makers.
Ace writer M T Vasudevan Nair will script the first movie in the project list, which will be directed by popular director Lal Jose. Director Kamal will script and direct the second of the projects while A K Sajan will once again script for action director Shaji Kailas for the third venture.
Scriptwriter-director Renjith will be in charge of the fourth movie while the fifth project will be directed by Rafi-Mecartin for MHM productions. Producer Sabu Cherian and director B Unnikrishnan will unite for the final project of the series. Most of the directors who has agreed to do the projects will work on reduced remunerations while most of the movies will feature fresh faces in their cast lists.
